What made you sign up for the Nivea 5X5 Challenge? Following our Camino di Santiago adventure, a Nannakola was approached by the Ladybird Foundation who in turn asked me if I was keen to take up a 45K walking challenge in September. At first I was reluctant, but when the organisers explained what the Ladybird Foundation  was all about, I found that I just had to take on the challenge. After hearing about the great work the Ladybird Foundation does, I felt it was the perfect opportunity for me to do my bit where I could help a little to bring some joy and smiles into the lives of a few special children and their families. The children are our motivation. Along with my fellow Nannakolas, we the humble ‘walkers’ – who are also mothers – feel we can’t do enough. It is an overwhelming feeling to be part of this fantastic Nivea 5×5 Challenge.

Have you ever attempted such a distance before? Not even in my dreams!!! 30K on the Camino is the most I have done so far…after which I suffered many tight muscles! 45K sounds like a nightmare but we’ll get there, we are managing 7.5K each morning with 25K most weekends, so I’m sure by mid-September we will have built the endurance and stamina to go the ‘extra mile’ 🙂

What are your thoughts as you look forward to the challenge ahead?

Somewhat anxious that I might not fulfil the challenge. This would mean not only letting down my walking buddies, my family and the many people that have supported me but most of all the little children. Training can be strenuous at times…the early morning alarm, getting out on the road before work, the anticipation of the heat we will have to endure in the summer months, all those things are not so easy….but I feel it is all so worthwhile!!!
