What made you sign up for the Nivea 5X5 Challenge?

I realise that I am lucky in life and this has made me want to help those who are less lucky.  I believe the Ladybird Foundation provides a fantastic opportunity to those who have been dealt a poor hand in life.  There is nothing better than being able to grant a child a special wish.  It is a privilege for me to be part of that process.

Have you ever attempted such a distance before?

I have paddled before, but nowhere near the distance required.  I am at stage of attempting my first forays into the water.

What are your thoughts as you look forward to the challenge ahead?

How to maximise my strengths, mitigate weaknesses and manage training demands to arrive in fighting shape to complete the 16 hr paddle.  In a few words, plough through, overcome blips, have a laugh on the way and think about the cause on those moments when one might have to dig deep.
